Freestone County, Texas Obits Houston Chronicle newspaper - Monday 08/01/2005 edition GRIMES RICHARD EUGENE GRIMES, age 82, of Bellaire, Texas went to be with the Lord on Saturday evening, July 30, 2005. After a valiant two year battle with cancer, he has now entered into a world without pain. A Christian throughout his adult life, he was a member of the West University Baptist Church. Richard was born in Fort Worth, Texas on July 24, 1923. He was preceded in death by his parents, Augusta T. Grimes and Clarry Lillian Darwin Grimes. Richard had 2 older brothers, AT and Bonnert, who also preceded him in death. His sister, Francine Crittenden, also died before him due to an auto accident. Mr. Grimes married Sharland Beatrice McNeil on June 12, 1943. Together, they later had two daughters, Linda, and Patricia. Mr. Grimes spent his entire 64 year working career in the foundry industry and operating pattern-making companies. A veteran of World War II where he served in the Navy, Mr. Grimes spent most of his adult life in the Houston area. Mr. Grimes joined the Rotary Club of Harrisburg in the early 1970's and was recently given an award for 32 years of perfect attendance. He was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. He served as Treasurer in 1974-1975 and as Secretary in 1977-1978. He was a long-time leader in the American Foundrymen's Society, and received numerous awards for his service. Mr. Grimes is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sharland; and his daughters, Linda Alldredge of Fairfield, Texas and her husband Jack, and Patricia Whitley of Katy, Texas and her husband Terry. His half-sister, Jean Gabelsberger, of Malakoff, Texas has survived him as has his brother-in-law, Archie W. Crittenden, of Hot Springs, Arkansas. In addition, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Jeannette Proctor, of Arlington, Texas, and her children, David Groves, John Groves, Paul Groves, James Groves and Kay Brown. He is survived by his nephew, Mike Grimes of Bedford, Texas; his niece, Paula Church of Arlington, and her husband Richard and their children Brett Church and Kelly Fail. Also surviving is grandson, Jason Whitley of California Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening August 2, 2005 at The Settegast-Kopf Co. Funeral Directors, in Houston. Mr. Grimes will be laid to rest at 10 a.m. on Thursday morning August 4, 2005 at Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery in Fort Worth, Texas.
