Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Teague Chronicle March 25, 2010 issue MILDRED LOUISE AMANDA BRUST HADDICK Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred Louise Amanda Brust Haddick, of Mexia were held on Saturday, March 20, 2010, at Faith Lutheran Church in Mexia. Burial followed the services at New Hope Cemetery in Freestone County. Mildred was born on February 25, 1920, in Wharton, Texas. She attended school in Mercedes, Texas. After graduating high school, Mrs. Haddick attended Mary Hardin Baylor University where she acquired her Bachelors degree. She received her Master’s in Piano from Kansas University. After earning her Master’s degree she taught class piano at Lee College, University of Texas at Austin, and St. Cloud State University in Minnesota. While at St. Cloud State University, she was a guest soloist for the St. Cloud Symphony. Not only was she an accomplished pianist, she taught first grade for 30 years. Mrs. Haddick taught in the Austin School District and completed her public school career at A.B. McBay Elementary School in Mexia. Mrs. Haddick continued teaching after retirement. She created a learning center where she taught piano and computer classes, and it is there she home-schooled her grandchildren. Mrs. Haddick passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at Providence Hospital in Waco. She was preceded in death by her husband Max R. Haddick, her parents Paul G. and Amanda Brust and her brothers Melvin Brust and Orville Brust. Mrs. Haddick is survived by her son Carl Haddick and wife Ruth of Mexia; her grandsons Nathan Haddick of Waco and Craig Haddick of Mexia; her sister Ethel Lipscomb of New Braunfels, Texas; and nieces and nephews.
