The Fairfield Recorder - Feb. 25, 1887 edition "Oakwood Occurrences" Died-We regret to chronicle the recent demise of John Handy, who died recently in Oakwood. Handy came to Freestone in 1879 and located on Mrs. M.L. Gill’s farm and there resided nearly up to the time of his death. For the last twelve months his health has been failing and he became almost a skeleton. Six weeks ago Mrs. Gill had him brought to Oakwoods where he could receive better attention, but with all medical aid and dainty nourishment Handy passed over the “dark river“. Although he made no pretensions to religions we are confident he was borne from earth and moved in a heavenward direction for he was a kind and faithful old horse.
