Freestone County, Texas Obits Fairfield Recorder newspaper - Thursday, September 14, 2006 edition Charles Ray Harris Funeral services were held Tuesday near Freestone for long-time Donie resident Charles Ray Harris, 77, who died Sunday, September 10 at his home. Mr. Harris was born April 20, 1929 in Donie, and attended Donie and Teague schools. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He married Marie Lloyd on November 24, 1950. He worked for the Donie Bank for 15 years, and was a full-time cattle rancher for most of his life. Mr. Harris was ordained as a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Donie in 1964, and served as Sunday school superintendent, chairman of the deacons, Brotherhood President, and church treasurer during his service to the church. Services were conducted at 11 a.m. at Union Cemetery Chapel, with Rev. Mark Munson, Rev. Bennie Mize and Rev. Eddie Hayworth officiating. Burial was at Union Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill Turner, Don Turner, Ray Turner, Ray Newsom, Billy Jones and Billie M. Beene and Craig Oakes. Mr. Harris is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marie Harris of Donie; two sons, Michael Harris and wife Diane of Mexia and Dennis Harris and wife Pilar of Teague; one daughter, Angela Lindsey and husband Wally of Teague; Five grandchildren, Mike Harris, Jr. of Wortham, Stephanie Watson and husband Ray of Mexia, Anthony Harris of Tyler, Kurt Harris and wife Erin of Teague, and Shea Lindsey of Waco; three great-grandchildren, Sheena and Keri Harris of Groesbeck and Caitlyn Watson of Mexia; One brother, Terry Harris and wife Ann of Georgetown; one sister, Betty Carson and husband Roger of Tyler; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvis and Vera Harris. Arrangements were made by Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home in Teague.
