Mexia Daily News - Jul. 12, 2005 edition Edna M. Haskins Funeral services for Mrs. Edna M. Haskins, 96, of Tehuacana, were conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, July 11, 2005,. in Tehuacana United Methodist Church. The Rev. Brad Brittain, pastor, officiated. Burial was in Wortham Cemetery, under direction of Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Mrs. Haskins, born on Oct. 3, 1908, in Ben Hur to Dock Harrison Read and Ola Christie Read, was a graduate of Ben Hur High School. She attended Meridian Junior College, Westminster College, and graduated from Baylor University with BA and MA degrees. She taught in the public schools of Limestone and Freestone counties for 36 years. She was also an active member of the Tehuacana United Methodist Church, where she taught an adult Sunday School class for over 25 years. She served on the Administrative Board, the Board of Trustees, was Chairman of Adult Ministries, and held various other offices of the Tehuacana church. Mrs. Haskins was a longtime member of Tau Chapter of International Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers' organization, the Limestone County Retired Teachers' Association, the Limestone Historical Society and was an active member of the Wortham Study Club in Wortham. She is survived by a son, Dr. Jimmy Haskins of Brenham; a granddaughter, Christi Haskins Kobelan, and husband Thom of Austin; four great-grandchildren - Walker, Wyatt, Dodge and McCord; a sister, Jane Keller of Fort Worth; a sister-in-law, Ann Read of Canyon; a special friend, Estalee Price of Mexia; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Haskins was preceded in death by her husband, Walton Acker Haskins, to whom she was married for 50 years, and by a grandson, Walt Haskins. Pallbearers were Charles Yelverton, Jerry Don Chilcoat, Johnny Amick, Dickie Thornton, Claude Monk and Freddie McDade. Honorary pallbearers were Gene Mackey and Edward Trotter.
