Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Mr. J. C. Helbert JC Helbert was born to P.C. and Maggie Helbert of Hamilton County on January 9, 1926 and passed away on April 7, 2014 at ETMC in Fairfield, Texas at the age of 88. Services were held on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Fairfield, Texas. The Community of Fairfield lost another WWII veteran, a local musician, and an avid fisherman. JC was a retired shop foreman from Texas Utilities/Big Brown Mines. He was a lover of music and was instrumental in the startup of the local Music Nights at the Senior Center, where local musicians come together to share their talents with anyone who wants to come listen, free of charge. JC also served as a board member for the Ward Prairie Water System. JC was survived by his wife Patty Helbert of Fairfield, sons Larry and Pat Helbert of Taylor, Billy Hurst , Eric and Connie Hurst all of Montgomery. Daughters Cindy and Charles Miller of Davilla, Mary Lou and Dennis Whitaker of Dew, Dawn and Steve Baumbach of Huntsville, also Sister Bertie Fay and N.W. Gandy of Temple. JC was “PaPa” to 14 Grandchildren: Melinda, Cathy, Brittany and Nikii, John, Brandon, Chris, Terry, Brett Darren, Casey, Christopher, Dustin and Chance. “Great PaPa JC” to 22 Great Grandchildren: Jordan, Garrett, Marissa, JC, Harlee, Reagan and Brody, Chandler, Abby, Madelyn, Weston and Mattie Claire, Emily, Ethan, Audrie and BreAna, Cooper and Trendon, Chase and Kaylee and Karley and Kaylee; and a number of nieces and nephews from all around the state. JC was preceded in death by his daughter Debra Jean, as well as his Mother and Father along with 8 of his 9 Brothers and Sisters. Pallbearers for the service were his Grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers were J.L. Phillips, Dean Robinson, Bill Logsdon and John Fryer. Pastor Spain Trask and Nephew Bradford Helbert officiated the services. Burial was at Dew Cemetery. Arrangements were by Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home, Fairfield.
