Freestone County, Texas Obits Mexia Daily News newspaper - August 25, 2006 edition Martha (McDonald) Henderson, 100 Years Old TEAGUE - Martha Henderson of Teague, Texas passed away Monday, August 21, 2006, in the Fairfield East Texas Medical Center among loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, August 26, 2006, at 1 o’clock in the Moore’s Angelic Funeral Home. Rev. J. Baggett, pastor of the Avant AME Church, Teague will officiate and Rev. Clifford E. McIlveen of Houston will be the eulogist. Interment will be in the Jerusalem Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM on Friday, August 25, 2006 at the Funeral Home. Mrs. Matha Henderson was born Martha McDonald and was the 6th child born to Will McDonald and Melissie Tatum McDonald in the Avant Community of Freestone County on November 17, 1905. She grew up in Avant, attended the public schools there, and was baptized in the Avant AME Church at an early age. Martha and John Henderson met and were married in Freestone County, Texas. She attended Paul Quinn College in Waco, and worked for a short while at Riley’s Café in Teague. She was a housewife, farmer and rancher, and enjoyed quilting, gardening, reading the Bible, and spending quality time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Henderson had been an active member of the Avant AME Church, Jerusalem Baptist Church, the Freestone County NAACP, the Heroines of Jericho, and the Teague Public Schools PTA. Those left to cherish her memory are: Seven children: John Morris Henderson and wife, Ruby Faye, Ft. Worth, TX; Marja Dell Maxson, Tyler, TX; Clyde Henderson and wife, Patricia, Houston, TX; Billy Henderson, Houston, TX; Robert Dyron Henderson and wife, Shirley, Groesbeck, TX; Melissie Tave and husband, Fil, Houston, TX; 23 Grandchildren; 37 Great-Grandchildren; 8 Great-Great Grandchildren;Daughters-In-Law: Joyce L. Henderson, Ft. Worth and Annie Ray Henderson, Teague; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
