Freestone County, Texas Obituaries [This is James Albert Hendrix b 27 Apr 1826 d 2 Dec 1892.] The Fairfield Recorder - Dec 9, 1892 An Old Citizen Dead Mr. J. A. Hendrix, who had been confined to his bed several months with cancer of the mouth and throat died last Friday, the 2nd inst. at the residence of his son, Mr. J. C. T. Hendrix. The deceased had been in failing health several years and when the cancer developed about a year ago, little hope was entertained for his recovery. He steadily grew worse and death when at last came was only a release from a siege of physical pain, a peaceful change from protracted suffering to the quiet sleep of the grave. Mr. Hendrix was a well known citizen of this community having resided here many years. He was born, in Henderson county, Tennessee in 1827 and moved to this county in 1852, settling about 2 miles north of Fairfield where he lived until about a year ago, when he made his home with his son here. The deceased was a good industrious citizen, a good neighbor and a man with many friends. Until he gave up housekeeping he lived on the quiet retirement of his farm and was well esteemed by all. The remains of the deceased were interred in the graveyard of the old Champion Echols place, three miles north of town, by the side his side his wife who died about three years ago and where he has four children buried. A good number of friends and neighbors were present to show their last mark of respect to the deceased. As the sun was getting low in the west on a quiet, still, balmy evening, the remains of the old man, neighbor and friend were laid to rest in one of the oldest family grave yards in the county.
