Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Mexia Daily News newspaper January 19, 2007 Raymond High Funeral services for Raymond High, 77, of Teague, will be held Saturday, January 20, 2007, at noon in Salem Missionary Baptist Church (Salem community). The Rev. C. Estell McIlveen will officiate. Interment will be in Salem Cemetery, under direction of Dorsey-Keatts Funeral Home. Mr. High, who died January 11, 2007, in Fairfield, was born on December 18, 1929, in Freestone County. He lived in the Avant community (Freestone County), and was a retired employee of Dew Independent School District’s Maintenance and Transportation Department, after 33 years of working there. He was a member of Avant A.M.E. Church of Teague and the Magnolia Burial Club. Mr. High had also been a school bus driver and an employee at various businesses in Teague. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Louise E. High of Teague; two daughters, Sallie High Carter and Treva Nell High, both of Dallas; four sons - William D. Davis (a nephew reared as a son), Billy J. High, Bobby R. High and Willie C. High, all of Teague; 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends, including Claud Philpot, a lifelong friend of Teague. Pallbearers are Charles E. Henderson, J.C. Chandler, John W. Henderson, Walter L. Banks, Alford (Peanut) Dunbar, James E. High, Artis High, Glenn Henderson, Henry C. High, D. Robinson and Jonathan High. ================== The Teague Chronicle - Jan 25, 2007: RAYMOND HIGH Funeral services for Mr. Raymond High were held on Saturday, January 20, 2007, at Salem Missionary Baptist Church in the Salem Community, Teague, Texas. Church leaders present were Rev. Earnest O. Riley, Pastor of Salem Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. J. Baggett, Pastor of Avant A.M.E. Church, with Rev. Anthony Thibodeaux officiating and Rev. C. Estell McIlveen as Eulogist. Interment was at Salem Cemetery in Teague. Brother Raymond High was born to Clarence and Mariah Huckaby High in Freestone County, Texas, on December 18, 1929. Both of his parents preceded him in death. Raymond graduated from the Booker T. Washington High School of Teague, Texas. Upon graduation from high school, he spent two years in the United States Army. After leaving the Army, he attended Barber College and worked as a barber along with other interests and business activities in Teague. Brother High was preceded in death by his brothers C.H. High, James High, Dimmie High and Ray High, his sisters Sterelene Chandler and Sallie Mae Henderson. He was united in Holy Matrimony with Ms. Louise High on July 1, 1952, who has been his loyal, devoted and loving wife for 54 years. Brother Raymond High was an active member of the Avant A.M.E. Church of Teague until his health failed. He retired from the Dew Independent School District's maintenance and Transportation Department after 33 years of continuous service. Mr. High departed this life on January 11, 2007, in Fairfield, Texas in the midst of his loving family. Brother High leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife Mrs. Louise E. High of Teague, his daughters Sallie High Carter and Treva Nell High both of Dallas, Texas, his sons William D. Davis (a nephew reared as a son), Billy J. High, Bobby R. High and Willie C. High all of Teague, Texas, 17 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, his cousins, Odessa Huckaby, Walter Lee Banks, and William, and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends including Claude Philpot, a life- long friend of Teague, Texas.
