Robert James (Joe) Hill, Sr.

Graveside services were held Friday in Montalba for Robert James “Joe” Hill, 
Sr., 59, of Montalba who died Tuesday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Hill was born February 21, 1947 in Palestine to Johnie Scott “Smokey” and 
Realis Marie Brown Hill.

Mr. Hill was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver, and served on the 
Montalba Volunteer Fire Department.

Services were conducted at 10 a.m. at Liberty Cemetery, with Rev. Robert 
Guthrie and Danny Hill officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons Randall Hill, 
Brandon Gilbreath, Brandon Brooks, James Pritchett, Ricky Lynn “Bubba” Johnson 
and Alan Beumel. Honorary pallbearers were Ryan Hill and Mason Wardell.

Mr. Hill is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carolyn Robertson Hill of 
Montalba; sons Robert James “Jim” Hill, Jr. and wife Brenda and Randall Kevin 
Hill and wife Glenda, all of Montalba; Sisters Anita Dockery and husband Ben of 
Holland and Flora Luna of San Marcos; Brothers Danny Hill and wife Debra of 
Slocum, Walter Hill and wife Kim of Norfolk, Virginia; Roger Hill and wife Dawn 
of Davis, Illinois, and George Hill of Point; Nine grandchildren, Kristen and 
husband Brandon Brooks, Randall Hill, Ashley Hill, Crystal Young, Ryan Hill, 
Brandon Gilbreath, Alan Beumel, James Pritchett and Jennifer Pritchett; and 
four great-grandchildren, Mykyla Brooks, Mason Wardell, Emily Wardell and 
Baylee Pritchett.
