Hobbs died at his home in the south part of town Tuesday morning, Feb 20, 1899. Mr. Hobbs was about 83 years of age and was one of the oldest, if not the oldest settlers of Freestone County having came to this county about 1848 from Tennessee. His death was caused by the grip and general debility. He was a good citizen and liked by all who knew him. He leaves a wife and two children and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. In the death of Mr. Hobbs, Freestone county looses an old landmark and one that will be greatly missed by his fellow townsmen and neighbors. The deceased's remains were laid to rest in the Fairfield cemetery last Wed.. evening with Masonic honors. The number of masons from different communities taking part in the ceremony.
