Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder - March 30, 1888 edition OAKWOOD OCCURRENCES March 16, 1888 Dr. E. P. Murdock of out town was called to Butler yesterday to see Dr. James Hobbs. We regret to learn that he had a paralytic stroke yesterday morning about 9 o'clock, in one side of his head and had been in a comatose condition ever since. We hope it will not prove as serious as his friends now fear. [same March 30, 1888 issue] PARALYZED The friends of Dr. James Hobbs, of Butler, formerly of our town, will be sorry to hear of his critical illness from paralysis, as mentioned in our Oakwoods correspondence. Dr. J.A. Sneed of our town went to see him Tuesday and we hear has said that his recovery is very doubtful. ---------------------------------------------------- Fairfield Recorder - April 6, 1888 edition DEATH OF DR. HOBBS Dr. James Hobbs, of Butler, whose dangerous illness from paralysis was mentioned last week, died yesterday morning at 5 o'clock. Dr. Hobbs was a comparatively young man; was raised in our county, and had a large number of friends and acquaintances, who will deeply regret his untimely demise. His death is a sore bereavement to his aged father and family, and to his affectionate wife and children a great loss indeed. It seems like "one of the family"". I was made sad indeed to learn of the death of my friend and former student, Dr. James Hobbs. He was one of first men I got acquainted with when I first went to Brewer, and we formed an intimacy and attachment almost like brothers.
