Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Bowers Funeral Home Melba Charlene Holmes (May 11, 1925 - January 21, 2008) Melba Charlene Holmes Funeral services for Melba Charlene Holmes were held on Thursday, January 24, 2008 at 11:00a.m. at Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home in Jewett. Rev. James Walker officiated. Interment followed the services at Sardis Cemetery. Melba went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 21, 2008. Melba was born May 11, 1925, in Freestone County, Texas to Bennie David and Essie Walker Holmes. Melba started working at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Waco, Texas in 1943 and then transferred to Austin where she retired with 40 years of dedicated service on August 30, 1983 from AT&T. Melba was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and great aunt. She was very loved by her family and all who knew her. Melba was preceded in death by her parents, Bennie and Essie; brothers, David, Jimmy, and Jackson Holmes; and a niece, Robbin Holmes. She is survived by: Her Sisters: Elva and husband Roy Hart of San Antonio, Texas; Violet Holmes of Tomball, Texas Her Brothers: Alton and wife Jean Holmes of Centerville, Texas; George and wife Ann Holmes of Bellaire, Texas. Her Nephews: David and wife Kathi Hart of Katy, Texas; Dale and wife Shelley Holmes of Bellaire, Texas Her Nieces: Pam and husband Roy Dodson of Spring, Texas; Geneva and husband Roger Dalton of Houston, Texas; Susan and husband Matlock Rice of Sealy, Texas; Cindy and husband David White of Spring, Texas Her Great Nieces and Nephews: Bradley and Alana Dodson of Spring, Texas; Casey, Cade, and Robbin Rice of Sealy, Texas; Tammie, Donnie, and Donna Hart of Katy, Texas; Alan and Jackson Holmes of Bellaire, Texas; Hunter and Samantha White of Spring, Texas And many other relatives and friends.
