Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Grace Bernice Pyburn Hood [b. Oct. 23, 1901 d. Jan. 22, 2001] HOOD GRACE BERNICE PYBURN was born October 23, 1901 in Pyburn, Texas. She graduated from Teague High School in 1919 and attended Westminister College in Tehucana, Texas. Grace taught elementary school and substituted in high school. She served as president of the PTA, the Delphian Club, and the Study Club. She was the director of the youth department at the First Methodist Church of Teague for a number of years. In 1920, Grace Pyburn married Travis Holland Hood. Survivors include daughter Grace Holland Medlin and husband Earl of Dallas, daughter Edna Carolyn Marshall and husband Jerry of Terrell, and daughter MaryAnne Leistra and husband Jim of Mineola. Grandchildren are Russell Medlin, Larry Medlin, Barry Medlin, Holly Parham, David Wells, Debbie Guard, Dana McElroy, and Derek Leistra. She is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be grandsons Russell, Larry, Barry, David, and Derek and nephew Bobby Lancaster. Honorary pallbearers are great- grandsons Travis Nance, Brett Schiavo, Brent Leistra, and Will Snell. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00PM Wednesday at Blair Stubbs Funeral Home in Teague, Texas. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Mineola, Texas. Grace was an inspiration for many people young and old. She was an angel on loan from God, as was her mother. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 25, 2001, 11:00 AM in First United Methodist Church in Teague. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Teague.
