Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Mexia Daily News - Jul. 30, 2003 edition Clayton Allen Huffman Graveside services for Clayton Allen Huffman, 86, of Clute, will be Thursday morning at 10 o'clock in Union Cemetery (Freestone County). Officiating will be the Rev. Benny Mize. Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home-Teague, is in charge of arrangements. Visitation is scheduled for this evening from 6 until 8 o'clock at the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Scott, Allen Scott, John Dunn, Chris Lamb, Brett Harper and Tim Lake. Mr. Huffman, who died Monday at Clute, was born in Donie on Feb. 21, 1917, and was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George Huffman; and two sisters, June Spruiell and Ruth Plummer. He retired from Chemical Lehman Tank Lines as a truck driver, which he did for over 20 years. Mr. Huffman, a member of Second Baptist Church of Lake Jackson for 47 years, served the church as deacon. Since retirement, he had done woodworking, and was an avid gardener, fisherman and hunter. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Billie Howell Huffman of Clute; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jerri and Connie Courtney of Lake Jackson, Sandra and Tom Lamb of Brazoria, and Janet and Kenneth Dunn of Clute; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Kenneth Huffman and Harvey Huffman of Pasadena, James Huffman and Dale Huffman of Teague, Howard Huffman of Fort Worth; two sisters, Chloe Brotherton of Buffalo, and Mavis Skelton of Teague; a sister-in-law, Johnnie Howell Scott of Angleton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
