Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper June 25, 2009 Herbert Dale Huffman Funeral services were held Wednesday for Herbert Dale Huffman, 81, of Teague who died Saturday, June 20, at his residence. Mr. Huffman was born and raised in Donie. He attended Teague High School and was drafted into the United States Army in May of 1945. After serving during World War II, Mr. Huffman received his honorable discharge in March of 1945. He married Lula Mae Evans on Sept. 11, 1948. Together they shared over 48 years of marriage before his wife's death in 1996. In 1993, Mr. Huffman retired from Champion Paper Company after 46 years of employment. He was a member of the Union Cemetery Association and the First Baptist Church in Teague. He enjoyed spending time with people and visiting friends. Mr. Huffman kept a daily journal of his activities in addition to the weather. He included the high and low temperature and rainfall amount for everyday since January 1971. Mr. Huffman also enjoyed spending time outside, watching the hummingbirds and fishing. When he was inside, he spent his time baking the candy, pies and cakes he had become well-known for. Services were held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Teague with Darrel Beggs and Bennie Mize officiating. Interment followed at Union Cemetery near Freestone. Mr. Huffman is survived by his wife of 10 years, Jeri Huffman; son, David Huffman; grandchildren, Rachael Huffman, Travis Huffman, and Mitchell Huffman, all of Teague; brothers, Kenneth Huffman and Harvey Huffman, both of Pasadena, Howard Huffman of Arlington, and James Huffman of Teague; and sister, Chloe Brotherton of Buffalo. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Mae Huffman; brothers, Clayton Huffman and George Huffman; and sisters, Ruth Plummer, June Spruiell, and Mavis Skeleton. At the family's request, memorials may be made to Union Cemetery, 110 F.M. 1451, Teague, TX 75860. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of Bowers Funeral Home in Teague.
