Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper April 9, 2009 Troy N. Huffman Funeral services were held last Sunday for Troy Huffman, 82, of Donie who died Thursday, April 2, at his residence. Mr. Huffman, a native of Donie, worked as a merchant marine during World War II. On July 23, 1947, he married Betty Fairly and together the couple shared 62 years of marriage. During the Korean War, Mr. Huffman served in the U.S. Air Force earning the rank of staff sergeant. He worked on the electrical systems of the early atomic bombs and was involved in some of the first nuclear technology. Mr. Huffman and his wife lived in New Mexico, Louisiana, Houston and Donie. He worked for Charter International Oil in Houston for 43 years, beginning with an entry position in the laboratory, eventually working his way to vice president before he retired. For the past 20 years, Mr. Huffman worked as a cattle rancher in Donie. He was also a member of Donie's First Baptist Church. Services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 5, at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague with Rev. Mark Munson and Dr. Jim Overton officiating. Interment followed at Union Cemetery near Freestone. Mr. Huffman is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Huffman of Donie; sons, Dennis Huffman and wife Darlene of La Porte, and Steven Huffman of Donie; daughter, Donna Bell and husband Don of Pasadena; grandchildren, Alycia Miller and husband Chris, Brian Bell, and Jessica Sitka and husband Matt; great-grandchildren, Kaylyn Sitka, Kaleb Sitka and Layla Miller; brothers, Billy Glenn Huffman and wife Glenise of Donie and Bob Huffman and wife Trudy of Palestine. He was preceded in death by his grandson, David Bell; parents, Jess B. and Eva Howell Huffman; and brother, Jack Huffman. Arrangements were provided by Bowers Funeral Home of Teague.
