Services were held in the Kirvin Baptist Church with Rev. Vernon Sivage[Savage?] officiating. Walker Funeral Home in Wortham was in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Hughes died Friday in the Wortham Hospital. He was born December 1, 1893 in Trenton, Miss. He had been a resident of Freestone County for the past 60 years. He was a former Freestone County judge, a former postmaster of Kirvin, and a deacon in the Kirvin Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War I and was a retired farmer. He was survived by his wife, Mrs. Faye Hughes; one daughter, Mrs. Johnny Ray Johnson of Lindale; three sons, Bill Hughes and Jack Hughes, both of Kirvin, and Harry Hughes of Angleton; five sisters, Mrs. Hilda Thompson of Waco, Mrs. Geneva Hughes of Waco, Mrs. Myra Winstead of Wortham, Mrs. Virgie Tschoepe of Pilot Point and Mrs. Tellie Clark of Dallas; three brothers, R. L. Hughes of Wortham, Bernard Hughes of Dallas, and Harold Hughes of Tehuacana; one brother-in-law, H. O. Sims of Roswell, N.M.; and 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
