Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Corsicana Daily Sun - September 27, 2005 edition Obituaries for 9/16/05 John Bruce Ivy John Bruce Ivy passed away Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, in Lake Jackson at the age of 65. Mr. Ivy was born in Teague on July 18, 1940, the son of Woodrow and Lily Forehand Ivy. He grew up in Fairfield among many uncles, aunts and cousins and graduated from Fairfield High School. Mr. Ivy received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemistry and was a doctoral graduate assistant at the University of Texas at Austin. He worked for Dow Chemical as a research chemist from 1967-1997 where he authored or co-authored 11 patents and was the recipient of the Dow Future Award in 1989. Mr. Ivy was a fourth generation Texan and the Ivy family has been a presence in Texas ranching for well over a hundred years. Mr. Ivy enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and spending time on the Ivy Kaliko Ranch in Navarro County. Too, he enjoyed family beach vacations on Bolivar Peninsula and participating in the Republican Presidential Roundtable in Washington, D.C. Mr. Ivy is survived by his wife, Joanna Smyly Ivy of Lake Jackson; and his two sons, John David Ivy of Boulder, Colo., and Jeffrey Lee Ivy of Denton. He is also survived by his sister, Madie and husband John of New York City and her children, John C. Head IV and Charles Head of Boston, Mass.; his sister, Lettie Jane Cook and husband Hal of Barry; mother, Lily Forehand Ivy of Barry; and sister-in-law, Sherry Smyly Parker of Channelview. His father, Woodrow Ivy, preceded him in death. The family would like to express their appreciation to Laurie Pelata, Norma Doria, Shelly Koert and Dr. J. Bertheau for their compassionate care which made it possible for Mr. Ivy to remain at home during his lengthy illness. Family visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Lakewood Funeral Chapel in Lake Jackson. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Lakewood Funeral Chapel with the Rev. John Hatch officiating. Pallbearers will be Mackey Ivy, Russell Ivy, Mack Ivy, John C. Head IV, Charles Head and Kade Parker. Arrangements by Lakewood Funeral Chapel, Lake Jackson.
