Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper March 2008 Velma (Griffin) Jackson Funeral services were held last weekend for Velma Jackson, 82, of Wortham who died Saturday, March 15 in DeSoto. Ms. Jackson was raised in Wortham and attended school there. She was a member of Beulah Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board and was chairperson of the kitchen committee. Mrs. Jackson was employed at the Wortham hospital for 24 years and was elected to city council in 2003. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, at Beulah Missionary Baptist Church in Wortham with Rev. Lester Brown officiating. Burial was at Wortham Cemetery. Ms. Jackson is survived by sisters Thelma Pringle of Waco and Gladys McMullen of Wortham; brother McKinley Griffin and wife Bernice of Lake Dallas; and special niece Evelyn Blair and husband Fred of DeSoto. Funeral services for Mrs. Jackson were held on Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Beulah Missionary Baptist Church of Wortham with the pastor Rev. Lester Brown officiating. Interment was at the Blind Lemon Jefferson Cemetery in Wortham. Mrs. Jackson grew up in Wortham, Texas and attended the Wortham Public Schools. She was a member of the Beulah Missionary Baptist Church and served on the Usher Board and as chairperson of the Kitchen Committee. She worked at the Wortham Hospital for 24 years and was elected to the Wortham City Council on May 3, 2003. She served until her term ended. Velma is survived by her sister Gladys McMullen of Wortham and her twin sister Thelma Pringle of Waco; her brother McKinley Griffin and wife Bernice of Lake Dallas; a special niece Evelyn Blair and husband Fred of Desoto and a host of other nieces nephews other relatives and friends.
