Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Mexia Daily News - April 6, 2007 edition Leola (Johnson) Jefferson WORTHAM - Mrs. Leola Jefferson, 99, of Wortham, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2007 in Parkview Regional Hospital-Mexia. Visitation began this morning at 10 and goes until 7 p.m. at Moore’s Angelic Funeral Home-Teague-406 Monroe Street. The family will be present from 6 until 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 7, 2007, at 11 a.m. in Beulah Baptist Church on Martin Luther King Boulevard in Wortham. The pastor, the Rev. Lester Brown, will be the eulogist, and the Rev. Curtis Jefferson, Jr., a nephew who lives in Weatherford, will officiate. Interment will be in the Wortham Cemetery. Mrs. Jefferson, a Homemaker, was a member of the Mexia State School Foster Grandparent Program from 1969 to 1999, the year she retired as a volunteer. She had received training as an LVN at the Chicago School of Nursing. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church of Wortham and served as a Mother of the Church, as a Choir member, was a member of the Mission program and Sunday School. Mrs. Jefferson is survived by her foster daughter, Ruby Nell Dixon and husband Walter of Amarillo; her brother, George L. Johnson (former announcer for KNES Radio of Fairfield), of Buffalo; eight grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Kenneth Busby, Bobby Joe Freeman, Walter Dixon, Patrick Jefferson, Jeffrey Anders and Doug Jefferson.
