Johnson of Teague who died Sunday, Dec. 9 at the Teague Nursing Home. Mrs. Johnson was born in Philadelphia, Penn. to John Henry Burke and Sallie Carrie Lou Barrett. She attended school in Glassboro, NC and was baptized by Rev. William Harkenson at Psalmist Baptist Church. Mrs. Johnson married James Johnson and worked as a nurse’s aide. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Order of the Elks in New York and a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Teague. Mrs. Johnson attended Sunday School and participated in the Prayer Breakfast Circle and United Methodist Women’s group. Services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 at Moore’s Angelic Funeral Chapel with Rev. Joshua Fields and Rev. Roger Hunter officiating. Burial was at Antioch Cemetery [of Luna]. Pallbearers were Richard F. Price, Julius Vickers, Terrell Mighty, Garvis Vickers, Roger Nealy, Sosthene Fuselier, Ivory Castee and Henry Owens. Honorary pallbearers were St. James United Methodist Church Stewards, the Prayer Breakfast Circle, Teague Nursing Home Staff and Providence Hospice Staff. Mrs. Johnson is survived by son Gerald L. Burke and wife Ricarda of Teague; nephew Harry Burke of Trenton, New Jersey; niece Marion Smith of Houston; special friend of the family Janet Walker of Mexia; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
