Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder Jan 11, 1895 issue Memorial Died at her residence near Mills, Tuesday, Dec. 18, 1894, Miss Laura Johnson. She was born in Dallas, Texas, Oct. 19, 1873, removed to this county with her parents several years ago where she has since resided. All that a careful physician and loving friends could do was to no avail; there was no relief for Laura, only in heaven. She bore her affliction with the fortitude of a Christian, retained her faculties to the last moment, seeming to realize she was going to a far better and happier world. She was a loving sister, a devoted daughter and greatly admired for her simplicity and sweetness of temper. She was interred in the Avant Cemetery, Wed. evening, Rev. G. W. White officiating. Again the family chain has been broken. One more link has gone to shine from heaven as a star to guide father, mother and brothers so that when they come to cross the dark river of death, Laura will be standing on the shore, decked in the robe of the angel with a crown of gold on her brow, wafting over and saying: "be not afraid, death is nothing but a little brook after all." It seems so sasd to resign our bodies to the tomb, but it is not for the Lord daily needs more jewels to add to his host of angels; otherwise he would not take from us our loved ones. Grieve not fond parents, sooner or later you too shall be called from the shore of time to meet Laura on the banks of sweet deliverance where you will sing and strike harp with the angel band and "declare him Lord of all." Call not back the dear departed anchored safe where storms are o'er; On the border land we left them, soon to meet and part no more. A friend
