Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Teague Chronicle December 14, 2006 WYNEMA JOLLY Wynema Jolly, 93, formerly of Teague, passed away on Wednesday evening, December 6, 2006, in Port Lavaca, Texas. Wynema was born to the late Bro. William Herbert "Hub" and Edna Pearl Wallace Turner on August 2, 1913, in Rusk, Texas. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law and friend. She met the late Lawrence (L.A.) Jolly while they both worked at the Rusk State Hospital. They were married on July 3, 1936, in Fairfield, Texas. During his overseas World War II deployment, Wynema worked at Hughes Tool in Houston. Upon his return home at the war's end, they moved to Teague to establish their home. Known by their friends as Nema and Jolly, they sang at many church functions, revivals, singing conventions and funerals throughout the area. They had been married for 52 and one half years when Mr. Jolly died in February of 1989. Wynema was an active member of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church for over 60 years. She played piano for the church, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, worked in vacation Bible schools, served on many food and service committees and was a member of WMA. She also served as a pianist for Sunday morning church services, at the Teague Nursing Home, for 20 years. Wynema taught private piano lessons at her home for many years, instructing more than 100 students. In addition to her love of music, she enjoyed caring for her plants and yard, gardening, cooking, sewing, playing dominoes with her friends, and spending time with friends and family. She is survived by her daughter, Mignon Smith and husband Paul of Palacios, her granddaughter Mechelle Smith of Houston, her grandson Corbett Smith and fiancée Nicole Stockdale of Dallas, her sisters Noveline DeFoor of Johnson City, Tenn., Dorothy Miles of Lewisville, Maxine Griffith and husband Robert of Eagle Lake, Bobbye Snow and husband Jim of Plano, her sister-in-law Vickie Standlee of Spring and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Funeral services for Mrs. Jolly were held on Saturday, December 9, 2006, at Eighth Avenue Baptist Church, in Teague, with Bro. Paul Gauntt and Bro. Steve Cowart officiating. Burial followed the service at Union Cemetery in Freestone County. Memorials may be made to Eighth Avenue Baptist Church, the Parkinson's Research Foundation and the American Heart Association. Arrangements were made by Bowers Funeral Home of Teague.
