Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Teague Chronicle - Nov. 23, 1917 edition It is with a sad heart that I attempt to write in memory about our dearly beloved Gillie Beebe Jones who was born Oct. 8, 1873 and departed this life Feb. 12, 1917. He was kind and obedient as a child who never had any trouble with his playmates, never used bad language, never gambled, did not mistreat anyone. His parents were never uneasy about him while away from home. He grew to manhood and on Dec. 11, 1898 he was united in marriage with Miss Lona Beasley to which this unit was born four children. One boy and three girls all of whom survive him except one girl who died in infancy. Some two years ago he was attacked with appendicitis and was never well again. His physician advised him to have an operation which he did on Fri. Feb. 9, 1917 and only lived three days. He was overseeing the place and looking after his stock when he left home. He was seemingly in good spirits when he left and but was brought back a corpse. He called his mother over the telephone before he started off and talked with her. In concluding his conversation he said, Mamma, you and Papa take good care of yourselves. Bye, Bye, Mamma. These were the last words she ever heard him say. It is so hard to think that we will never hear him speak again. It was not my privilege to be with him any after he left home but was told by his daughter that he suffered untold agonies. She said just before he died she was by his side and he looked at her and smiled and said I am all right. Yes we are sure that he is all right and today is seated at the right hand of the majesty on high. He never made any public promise but we have evidence to believe that he had been with Jesus. Fear not dear father and mother for it will not be long until you too will join him in that better land. He leaves to mourn his death an aged father and mother, wife and two children, two brothers and two sisters besides a host of relatives and friends. He was laid to rest in Hopewell Cemetery in site of where he was born and raised up to await his resurrection. The following verse is by the request of his parents, John Sims and Eliza Jones: The precious one from us is gone but the place can never be filled the breath has vanished from our home which lingers with us still in silence we weep until our loved one we meet the sorrowing sister Minnie Pearl
