Martha Inez (Carter) York Jones

Funeral services were held last week for Martha Inez York Jones, 84, of 
Fairfield, who died Saturday, March 7, at Fairfield's Fairview Healthcare 
Residence.

Mrs. Jones was born in Honey Grove on Feb. 23, 1925 to Albert and Stella Carter.

As a beautician, she owned and operated Martha's Beauty Shop in Fairfield for 
several years before retiring.

Mrs. Jones was also a member of the Davis Street Baptist Church in Sulfur 
Springs.

Services were held at Griffin-Roughton Funeral on Tuesday, March 10, at 10 a.m. 
with Tommy Hall and Buddy Turner officiating.

Music was provided by pianist Bud Black and vocalists Mary Vaughn and Ricky 
Allen.

Burial followed at Fairfield Cemetery with Art York, Lloyd Lane, Troy Hughes, 
Wade Schrader, C.J. York and Fred Olivarez serving as pallbearers.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband, Sam Jones of Sulfur Springs; son, Dr. 
Charles Herman York and wife Mimi of Grand Prairie; daughters, Patricia Lane 
Hilton and husband Tony of LaRue, and Stephanie York Hughes and husband Dirk of 
White Oak; grandchildren, Art York and wife Shelley of Rowlett, Valanie Goldman 
and husband Jeremy of New York, C.J. York of Rowlett, Lloyd Lane and wife Laurie 
of Buffalo, Talana Olivarez and husband Fred of Buffalo, and Troy Hughes and 
wife Cindy of Dallas; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; 
brothers, Albert Marion and wife Wanda of Garland, and Lynnie Carter and wife 
Martha of Wichita Falls; sisters, Gladys Stevenson of Irving, and Lorene Waller 
and husband Buddy of Mesquite; and brother-in-law, Horace Norris of Commerce.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Stella Carter; sister, 
Mozelle Norris; brother, Roy Carter; daughter-in-law, Wilma York; and former 
husband, Herman York.

Arrangements were made by Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home of Fairfield.

Martha Inez (York) Jones, died Saturday, March 7, 2009 in Fairfield at the age of 84.  She was 
born February 23, 1925 in Honey Grove, Texas to Albert and Stella Carter.  She owned and

She was preceded in death by her parents -Albert and Stella Carter; sister - Mozelle Norris; 
brother- Roy Carter; daughter-in-law -Wilma York and her first husband - Herman Lee York. 
 
She is survived by her husband Sam Jones of Sulphur Springs; son - Dr. Charles Herman and 
Mimi York of Grand Prairie; 2 daughters - Patricia Lane and Tony Hilton of LaRue and Stephanie 
York and Dirk Hughes of Whiteoak; 2 brothers - Albert Marion and Wanda Carter of Garland and 
Lynn and Martha Carter of Wichita Falls; 2 sisters - Gladys Stevenson of Irving and Lorene and 
Buddy Waller of Mesquite; grandchildren - Art and Shelley York of Rowlett, Valanie and Jeremy 
Goldman of New York City, C.J. York of Rowlette, Lloyd and Laurie Lane of Buffalo, Talana and 
Fred Olivarez of Buffalo and Troy and Cindy Hughes of Dallas; 11 great grandchildren; 2 great 
great grandchildren; number of nieces and nephews.  
 
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 10, 2009 from 8:00-10:00 am at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home 
in Fairfield.  
 
Service will be Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 10:00 am at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home Chapel in 
Fairfield with Rev. Tommy Hall and Rev. Buddy Turner officiating.  Burial will follow in the 
Fairfield City Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers will be Art York, Lloyd Lane, Troy Hughes, Wade 
Schrader, C.J. York and Fred Olivarez.
