Mexia Daily News - Aug. 3, 2004 edition Mexia Daily News - Aug. 3, 2004 edition Annie Dale (James) Jones Annie Dale Jones, of Midland, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was 85. Granny, as she was affectionately known, was born July 29, 1918 in Wortham, Texas to Solomon James and Annie Lou Luckie. She married Robert Abry Jones on December 24, 1941 and to this union two children were born, Carolyn Elaine Jones Wallace and Sandra Ilene Jones. Robert and Sandra preceded Annie Dale in death. Other family members preceding her in death include her brother, Theron A. Luckie, sister, Lucy Faye Johnson and foster brother, John Henry Luckie. Annie received her bachelors degree from Paul Quinn College in Waco, Texas. She taught elementary art for over 40 years. Her teaching career began in Coolidge and Mexia. In 1959 she moved to Midland where she worked for the Midland Independent School District until her retirement in 1986. She taught at many schools in the district, the last being Carver Cultural Center. Also, in 1959 she became a member of Greater St. Luke A.M.E. Church where she worked in many capacities including Church Steward. Annie was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority as well as other civic clubs and organizations. Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Wallace and her husband, Alvin T., of Glendale, AZ; three grandchildren, Cathy E. Wallace of Midland, TX; Robert A. Wallace and his wife, Michelle, of Irving, TX; Alvin Lyn Wallace of Irving, TX; four great-grandchildren, Brittany Ramos, Victoria Ramos, Joshua Wallace and Zechariah Wallace of Irving. She is also survived by a favorite niece, Joyce M. Sigust (Elijah) and three special nephews, Bunyan W. Johnson (Doris) of Vallejo, Robert S. Johnson (Charlene) of Dallas, and Rueben R. Johnson (Bessie) of Lake Jackson. Granny will also be missed by several other relatives and friends. Funeral services have been scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Saturday, August 7, 2004 at Greater St. Luke A.M.E. Church, 401 S. Adams, Midland, Texas with Reverend Darrell Turner officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Midland.
