He was pronounced dead at 10:45 PM at East Texas Medical Center in Fairfield by Peace Justice Al Samons, Precinct 1. Bonner, a 24-year employee of Nucor Steel, served as a FISD board member for 12 years. Born July 18, 1953 to Charles Travis and Doris Ivy Bonner, he was a graduate of Fairfield high school and attended Navarro College and Sam Houston State University. He was active in Young farmers and had served as president of the Fairfield chapter and vice president at state level. Bonner had served some three years on the Freestone County Fair Board and as assistant swine superintendent. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Funeral services were pending at press time. He is survived by his wife, Kay Curry Bonner; two daughters, Jamie Bonner and Allison Bonner; a step daughter, Regan Curry; a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and David Barnes; and a niece and nephew, Beth and David Barnes, Jr." ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The Fairfield Recorder, 2 Nov 2000 edition, Page 7B: [Different picture on obit] "James T. Bonner Funeral services were held for Friday in Fairfield for James Travis Bonner, 47, of Fairfield who died Monday, Oct 23, at his home. Mr. Bonner was born July 18, 1953 in Fairfield to Charles Travis and Doris Ivy Bonner. He was married New Years Day, 1999 to Kay Curry-Bonner. A graduate of Fairfield high school, he attended Navarro College in Corsicana and Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. He was a 24-year employee of Nucor Steel, and served on Fairfield Independent School District board of trustees for 12 years. He was very active in Young Farmers Association and had served as Area 8 president and state vice president. He served three years on the Freestone County Fair Board, and served as an assistant swine superintendent. He also served on the Pleasant Grove Water Board. Services were conducted at 3 PM at Calvary Baptist Church, with Terry Skinner officating. A muscial tribute of his favorite songs was played. At a special graveside service held at Faulkenberry Cemetery in Groesbeck, family and friends held either a pink or white ballon. As a special song by Melissa Ethridge, "Talking to My Angel" was played, everyone released their balloons. Pallbearers were Alan Gibson, Ernie Bell, Frank Bonner, Bill Minchew, Kenny Bulger, Kenneth Bulger, Richie Gonzales, and Brent Bradford. Honorary pallbearers were Don Posey, Mark Chavers, Barry Capps, Danny Robertson, Edward Johnson, Patricia Tate, and Ellen Jones. Mr. Bonner is survived by his wife, Kay Curry-Bonner of Fairfield; three daughters, Jamie and Allison Bonner of Fairfield, Regan Curry of Austin; a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and David Barnes of Fairfield; a sister-in-law, Ann Franklin Price of Huntsville; a nephew, David Barnes, Jr. of Fairfield; nieces Beth Barnes of Fairfield and Haley Price of Huntsville; a mother-in-law, Reba Franklin of Groesbeck; several aunts and uncles, and many friends/ Arrangements were made by Capps Memorial Chapel in Fairfield.
