Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Fairfield Recorder - October 1, 2009 edition Thomas Cata (T.C. or Cater) Kennedy Graveside services for Mr. Cater Kennedy, 89, were held Friday, September 25, 2009, at Greenwood Cemetery in Teague. Bro. Harvey Hallmark officiated. Visitation was Thursday with the family present at the funeral home. Mr. Kennedy passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia. He was born to N.B. (Babe) and Arnie Thomas Kennedy on February 27, 1920 in Emhouse, but lived almost all of his life in Freestone County. He married Rose Zella Solley on June 14, 1937 and shared more than 54 years together until being separated by her death on February 3, 1992. Mr. Kennedy worked several jobs in his lifetime usually operating heavy equipment and had retired from the City of Teague. He was self taught and known to be able to modify equipment or procedures to accomplish whatever task was at hand. Mr. Kennedy was also a foster grandparent at the Mexia State School for many years and really enjoyed his work there. He loved music and played guitar, fiddle, and mandolin. When his health allowed, he enjoyed attending the monthly musicals at the Freestone Community Center. He was a very energetic person, always had a smile on his face, and never let anything get him down. He is survived by one son, Bobby Kennedy and wife Joy of Donie; one grandson, Matthew Kennedy and wife Rhonda of Waco; three granddaughters, Kimberly Kennedy of Donie, Kristy Ernest and husband Rusty of Crockett, and Kerrie Cobb and husband Steven of Groesbeck; six greatgrandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; his companion of 17 years, Annie Lou Rankin, and her son Doyle Rankin and wife Laurie of Teague and other relatives and friends. Mr. Kennedy was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Kennedy; two infant daughters; and one greatgrandson.
