Freestone County, Texas Obituaries, Memorials, and Death Notices [This is William Robert “Bill” Keys (22 Feb 1880 - 8 Sep 1933)] The Fairfield Recorder - Thursday, September 14, 1933 Page: 1 BILL KEYS, PALO PINTO, PASSES AWAY William Robert Keys, 53, of Palo Pinto, passed away this morning at 3:00 o'clock at the Nazareth Hospital of this city. Funeral service will be held In Mineral Wells Saturday, at 3:00 p.m. at the First Methodist Church, with the interment later at the cemetery at Palo Pinto. Rev. E. M. Daley, pastor of the Methodist Church at Gustine. Mr. Keys friend of former days, Rev. P. E. Riley, this city, and Rev. P. E. Cantrell, Palo Pinto, will assist 1n the services. R. H. Beethman, undertaker, will be in charge of the arrangements. Bill Keys, as he was known to a host of friends in Mineral Wells aud Palo Pinto Countv. was universally admired by everyone and had many close personal friends. Most people, when his name was mentioned, would almost invarlably refer to him as “a good man." Quiet, diligent, with a reputation for honesty and intergrlty, he won about from day to day working for the interest of his family and friends and doing his part for the betterment of his community in general. For the past year he has been suffering with heart trouble and has had several attacks, and his physicans would not permit him to do any work of any consequence. Last Saturday he grew suddenly worse and had to go to bed. later here, gradually sinking until the end this morning. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Corrle Keys, three sisters and three brothers, Mrs. W. F. Whatley of Klrven. Mrs. W. B. Manning, Waco; Mrs. T. B. Ogilbie, Mexia. Tom Keys Cotton Gin, Texas; B. F. Keys and F. W. Keys, Camp Springs. There are also a number of nieces and nephews surviving. Born at Cotton Gin, Freestone County, in 1880, Mr. Keys moved to Palo Pinto in 1915, engaging in the telephone business. Two years prior to moving to this county. Dec. 17, 1913, he win married to Mrs Corrle Son, daughter of J. C. Son of Palo Pinto. They were married in Mineral Wells by the Methodist pastor, Rev. Hosklss, now deceased. For many years Mr. Key, was a steward In the Methodist Church. At the time of death was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Mineral Wells and the Woodman of the World here. He was a past master of Ma*ons, having served in that capacity in, his home lodge at Cotton Gin before coming here. The Masons will have charge of the services at the cemetery where the last Masonic rites will be paid to their departed member. Pallbearers for the services at the grave were selected from among the Masons and friends of the deceased and will be Judge E. L. Pitts, Lubbock, W. P. Cameron, John Tom Bowman, W. T. Tygrett, Mineral Wells. Bill Logsdon, Bill Abernathy, Frank Eades and Aron Jordon, Palo Pinto. At the church the pallbearers will be selected from nephews and will be Frank and Crit Abernathy, Palo Pinto. Claude Manning, Waco. J. C. Whatley, Teague; Jimmie Keys. Dallas. J. C. Keys, Dallas. In the passing of Bill Keys, Palo Pinto county has lost one of its most loveable characters and a substantial citizen and The Index joins with the host of friends in extending sympathy to Mrs. Keys and other relatives.
