    DEATH OF AN OLD SETTLER
  One of the oldest men and also one of the oldest settlers of Freestone county
passed away this week, in the death of Mr. Charles Kilgore, who died last Sunday,
at his residence on Avant Prairie, at the age of 78. We have been unable to get 
any particulars of his life or residence here, but have only hears that he came 
to this county about 1840 or 1845, long before the county was established, and
when this section of State was a wilderness with but few settlers. He had been
living for 39 years on the place and in the house where he died; and during the 
latter years of his life had remained quietly at his home, going about but little.
His remains were interred in Monday the family graveyard on his place.
