Killgore, Jr., a loving husband, father, Grandfather, Uncle and friend passed away in his sleep Tuesday, November 21, 2006. Charles P. Killgore, Jr. was the last surviving child of Charles P. Killgore, who was a farmer, blacksmith and founder of the Dew Coop and his wife Stella Myrtle Evans Killgore. He was buried with Graveside Services, Sunday, November 26, 2006 in Dew Cemetery next to his beloved wife Frances Myrdelle Compton Killgore and other loved family and friends…and close to his church, the Dew United Methodist, where he was a member since childhood. The Service was led by nephew, Perry Lynn Kilgore of Palestine. After graduation from Teague High School in 1938, like many young farm boys, he went to war. He enlisted June 23, 1941, served in the 232nd AAF as a radio mechanic in the Pacific Theatre in Papua, New Guinea. He came home May 20, 1945. He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, American Defense Service Medal, Unit Citation and Good Conduct Medal. Upon his return, he married and made a life in Dallas where he worked for Western Union for 33 years. In Dallas, he was a Boy Scout Leader, active member and former Worshipful Master of the Mike H. Thomas Masonic Lodge. He loved to bowl, fish, golf and mastered the bow for hunting. Blessed with good health, he moved to Teague in 1991 for retirement after his wife passed away. He found plenty to do helping to decorate his class float each year for the homecoming parade, gathering donation gifts for various fund raising school and church events and was in charge of baking all of the potatoes for the Sweetheart Banquet each year for a time, a chore to which he looked forward to each and every year he was in charge. He was active in his church in Dew and also joined the Teague United Methodist Church Mens Club. He joined the Masonic lodge in Teague, Boggy No. 739. He served as President of the Dew Cemetery Association and looked forward each year to making the Memorial a treasured day for everyone. Charles P. Killgore, Jr. was where he wanted to be.
