Freestone County, Texas Obits Mexia Daily News newspaper - Aug 1, 2006 edition Dr. Utah Kirk Dr. Utah Kirk passed away Thursday, July 27, 2006 at his residence in Fairfield, Texas. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 31, 2006 at Moore’s Angelic Funeral Home at 10:00 AM and the family will be present from 7:00 PM-8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at 1:00 PM in the Salem Missionary Baptist Church FCR 489 in Teague. Rev. A. J. McKnight of Grace Missionary Baptist Church, Dallas will officiate. Interment will be in the Salem Cemetery. Doc, as he was fondly referred to, received the BA Degree from Bishop College, Dallas, Texas in Political Science and Economics. He was awarded the Master of Education in Administration and Supervision, and took the Ph.D. Degree from The University of North Texas in Psychology. He did additional study at Texas A&M Commerce. Dr. Kirk worked as a consultant for The Dallas Independent School District, was an Administrative Assistant for Congressional District #5 for 5 years; was employed by The Eastman Kodak Company and the U.S. Civil Service. He served as campaign manager for Zan Holmes of Dallas from 1968-1970 and Congressman Earl Cabell, and managed campaigns for Dallas School Board Candidates for more than 14 years. His membership in organizations included: The American Society of Notaries, Disabled Veterans, Chapter 31, Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce, Dallas Economic Development Committee; President of the Lucky Ducks Social and Charity Club, Public Relations Chairman and Advisory Committee of the Heart Association; The Progressive Voters League, Vice President of the Simpson Stuart Committee, Board member of The National Foundation of the March of Dimes. Dr. Kirk is survived by his only two children: Vincent Kirk and wife, Patricia of Brazoria, Texas and Sheila Kirk Eaton and husband Delroy of Sherman, Texas; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
