Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Fairfield Recorder - May 20, 2007 edition Moses Kirven Funeral services were held Saturday, May 12 in Mexia for Moses Kirven, 88, of Coolidge who died Monday, May 7 at Parkview Regional Hospital. Mr. Kirven was born February 14, 1919 to James Kirven and Drucilla Adkinson Kirven in the Sandy Community near Coolidge. He was a member of the Sandy Grove Primitive Baptist Church in Coolidge, where he served as a deacon and a member of the trustee board. He was also a devoted member of the Traveling Souls Gospel Singers. Mr. Kirven received his education from the Woodland Public School, joined the U.S. Army on July 6, 1942 and was honorably discharged on September 16, 1943. He and his wife, Vicy Beachum, had 13 children, all of whom received a college education. Two became doctors. A Master Mason, Mr. Kirven was a member of the Pride of Coolidge Lodge #282, F&AM of Texas. He was a farmer and worked for many years as a machinist for Vario Manufacturing Co. of Mexia. He was a butcher at the Mexia Meat Packing Company, and retired from the Groesbeck Meat Packing Company after 40 years of service. Services were conducted at 1 p.m. at Mexia State School's All Faiths Chapel, with Rev. H.V. Chambers, pastor of Sandy Grove Primitive Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was at Sandy Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael Kirven, Reginal Kirven, Shannon Kirven, Christopher Kirven, Darrell Heggins, Germaine Owens and Calvin Carter. Mr. Kirven is survived by his wife of 65 years, Vicy Beachum Kirven; seven sons, William (Pete) Kirven and wife Bennie, Floyd Kirven and Elvin Kirven, all of Sandy Community; Robert James Kirven and wife Gloria of Mexia; Otis Kirven and wife Ruth of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Five daughters, LaVern K. Jackson and husband Bobby, DeEvelyn K. Higgins and husband Shelton, and Madelyn Kirven-Gamble and husband Don, all of Dallas; Jacqueline K. Gee and husband Winford of Mexia, and Dr. Sharon D. Kirven of Plano; One brother, Johnny Kirven of Dallas; three sisters, Ella Mae Johnson and husband Charlie, Laura Whitehead, and Gussie Freeman, all of Dallas; sisters-in-law Lena Mae Kirven and Lorine Kirven, all of Sandy Community, and Pearlie Mae Beachum of Mount Calm, Texas; 27 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, caretakers Dollie and Sheeka; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Mr. Kirven were held on Saturday, May 12, 2007, at Mexia State School's All Faiths Chapel. Rev. H.V. Chambers, Jr., Pastor of Sandy Grove Primitive Baptist Church, officiated and interment was at Sandy Creek Cemetery. Mr. Moses Kirven was born on February 14, 1919, to the parentage of James Kirven and Drucilla Adkinson Kirven in the Sandy Community, Coolidge, Texas. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Sandy Grove Primitive Baptist Church of Coolidge, Texas where he served as a Deacon and a member of the Trustee Board. He devoted many years of his life to singing God's praises as a member of the Traveling Souls Gospel Singers. Mr. Kirven received his education from the Woodland Public School near Mexia, Texas. Moses was inducted into the United States Army on July 6, 1942, and was honorably discharged on September 16, 1943, as a testimonial of Honest and faithful service to his country. On July 19, 1942, he married the love of his life, Ms. Vicy Beachum. This marriage was blessed with thirteen children. As a firm believer in education, Mr. Kirven and his wife sacrificed so that all of their children received a college education. It is remarkable that two medical doctors have come from their thirteen children. A Master Mason, Mr. Kirven was a member of Pride of Coolidge Lodge #282, F&AM of Texas. He was a farmer and worked for many years as a machinist for VARIO Manufacturing Co. of Mexia. He was a butcher at the Mexia Meat Packing Company and retired from the Groesbeck Meat Packing Company after more than 40 years of service. Mr. Kirven was well-recognized as an outstanding citizen and a man of his word throughout the surrounding counties. He will best be remembered for his honesty, hard work and diligence. Preceding Mr. Kirven in death are his parents, his son Earnest in 1995, his brothers Joe, Arthur, Ed, William and James, Jr., his sisters Hazelle Elena, Alice, Aldessie and Elizabeth. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving, devoted and forever caring wife of 65 years, Vicy Beachum Kirven of the Sandy Community, his sons William (Pete) Kirven and wife Bennie, Floyd Kirven, Elvin Kirven all of Sandy Community, Robert James Kirven and wife Gloria of Mexia, Otis Kirven and wife Pearlie of Dallas, Stelvin Kirven and wife Regina of Sunnyvale, and Dr. Felix M. Kirven and wife Ruth of Virginia Beach, Virginia, his daughters LaVern K. Jackson and husband Bobby, DeEvelyn K. Heggins and husband Shelton and Madeline Kirven-Gamble and husband Don all of Dallas, Jacqueline K. Gee and husband Winford of Mexia and Dr. Sharon D. Kirven of Plano. Mr. Kirvin's brother Johnny Kirven of Dallas, his sisters Ella Mae Johnson and husband Charlie, Laura Whitehead and Gussie Freeman all of Dallas, his sisters-in-law Lena Mae Kirven, Lorine Kirven all of Sandy Community and Pearlie Mae Beachum of Mount Calm, 27 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren his devoted caretakers Dollie and Sheeka, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive him.
