Mrs. Knight passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at the Regent Care Center in Woodway with her family by her side. She was born on January 31, 1915 in Freestone to Will and Voila Shelton. Muriel married Lloyd H. Knight of Freestone in 1932. Her entire life was spent in the community of Freestone except for three years during World War II when she and Lloyd lived in San Antonio and Houston. After the war, they packed their bags and moved back to Freestone and bought the general store. The Freestone Post Office was located in the general store and Muriel became the Postmaster and remained as such until retiring in 1975. After her retirement she devoted her time to helping her husband raise cattle on their ranch. Mrs. Knight was a member of the Freestone Church of Christ and was baptized in the gin tank at the age of twelve. Her mother passed on to her the responsibility for preparing the communion tray and Muriel carried that responsibility for sixty-one years until she became ill with cancer. Mrs. Knight was one of the founders of the Freestone Community Center and remained very active in volunteering for events there. She was famous for her sugar cookies, peach cobbler (with Blue Bell ice cream on top) and her love for cooking. She was an avid gardener and she thoroughly enjoyed life and the people of the community. She will be dearly missed by all. She is survived by one daughter, Nelma Lloyd Wilson & husband Eugene of Waco; one granddaughter, Vicki Kathleen Clark & husband Dennis of North Richland Hills; one grandson, Reggie Black of Dallas; two great-grandsons, Nicholas & wife Jennifer of New York and Christopher and Idalou Barnum of Fort Worth; one great-granddaughter, Jessica Hutchison & husband Tiger of Fort Worth; five great-great-grandsons, Austin Barnum, Ethan and Christian Barnum, and Cole and Carter Hutchison; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. Mrs. Knight was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd H. Knight, her parents, Will & Viola Shelton, and one brother, Aldridge Shelton.
