Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Teague Chronicle - Sept 30, 1943 Patrick D. Lawhon, Long a Resident of Teague Died Sunday Patrick D. Lawhon age 72, died at 8:10 o' clock a.m. Sunday, September 26 at the Davidson Memorial hospital of this city following an operation. He is survived by his wife and a brother. Henry Lawhorn of Rockingham, NC. He was born June 10, 1871, near Charlotte NC and when a young man entered the sawmill and lumber business in Alabama but came to Teague in 1907, where he engaged in the grocery business. Disposing of his interest he became a building contractor. He was married to Miss Anna Whatley June 13, 1907. Mr. Lawhon was long a member of the the First Baptist Church of Teague and for many years served as chairman of the board of deacons, a position he held at the time of his death. To him is largely due the credit of the attractive appearance of the church's auditorium, completed within the past few years. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church Sunday afternoon conducted by the pastor, Rev John O. Scott assisted by Rev H.L. McKissack pastor of the Eighth Avenue Baptist church with Ham Brother's funeral home officiating. Pall bearers were deacons of the church with which he served those being active being as follows: J.O. Banks, Earl Cain, J.K. Snearly, H.E. Sledge, S.K. Autrey, Allen Seale, W.D. Black, and Ed Manahan; alternate W.W. Withrow. He was a lover of the church hymns and was a song writer of recognized ability.
