Mildred Bonner was born prematurely under adverse conditions with multiple health problems, and at the time was not expected to live. In 1924, a less-than-3-pound baby had almost zero chance of living. Throughout her life, she dealt with these health problems when conventional wisdom of the day indicated that she would not live to an old age. Showing the determination of her youth, she managed to live a full life till age 81. She attended Texas State College for Women in Denton, where she met and married Elwin David “ED” Lipscomb in 1946. She had three children while married to “ED.” In 1950, Mildred and ED divorced and she moved back to her parents home in Eureka. She never remarried and took care of her parents until their respective deaths in 1956 and 1988. At various times in her life she worked for Dr. Leslie Kelton as a medical receptionist, as secretary for various Corsicana businesses, and as a longtime social worker for the Texas Department of Human Resources. She retired as a medical transcriptions specialist for Navarro Regional Hospital in Corsicana. She had been a longtime resident of Greenbriar Apartments, Friendship Towers, and most recently Heritage Oaks Retirement Home. Her family and extended family wish to offer their warmest and most heartfelt thanks to Dr. Updegrove, Dr. Kingman, the staff of Navarro Regional Hospital, the staff of Heritage Oaks Retirement Center, Bill Roughton of Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home, Dr. Bob Young, and particularly the staff and residents of Friendship Towers for the many kindnesses and considerations shown to her and her family during her recent lifetime. You were all her friends and she loved you all. A memorial guest book is available at www.griffin-roughton.com.
