Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Submitted by Billie Bournias [She is buried in Fairfield Baptist Cemetery. 1862 - 03/02/1948] The Fairfield Recorder March 1947 George Ann Love Old Time Negro, Buried Here Georgie Ann Love passed away Tuesday, March 2, in a servants house at the K E. Hill home in Fairfield, where she had lived as a trusted servant for 85 years. She was born in Freestone county about 96 years ago and had lived here all of her life. She was the last of her family to pass. Her mother, Aunt Flora Hamilton, having died about 35 years ago. There was no "color-line" where George Ann’s friends were concerned. Many, both white and black, visited her in her last illness. During the few years of her life, she frequently recalled names of early families of Freestone County for whom she had, at various times worked. Among those she remembered with affection were the L. G. Sandifers, Leadbetters, Lindseys, Pecks, Mrs. Jane Anderson and family, Mrs. Linda Sims, and the family of Dr. W. N. Sneed, Sr. George Ann will be missed. She welcomed opportunities to do nice things for the neighbors. She was deeply concerned for any who were sick. She had no education, she could neither read nor write; but her good sense, natural wit, cheerfulness, desire to help others, and her devotion to those who had befriended her will ever be remembered by those who knew her intimately.
