Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Mexia Daily News April 25, 2007 Bessie Estelle (Mathison) Mackey Mrs. Bessie Estelle Mackey, 87, of Mexia, passed away Monday, April 23, 2007, at her home. Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2007, at the Groesbeck Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2007, at Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Clayton Griggs and the Rev. Walter Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Wortham Cemetery at Wortham. Mrs. Mackey was born September 3, 1919, to John Newton and Carney O’Niel Bosley Mathison in Navarro County, Texas. She graduated from high school in 1937, was employed as a Bookkeeper ast McRee Motors in Dickinson, until her retirement in 1972. She married John William Mackey on February 3, 1993. Mrs. Mackey is survived by her son, Johnnie Niel Mackey, Sr, and wife Nelda of Mexia; a daughter, Ruby Jean Mackey Shelby and husband Tom of Baytown; a brother, Dewey Mathison of Kerrville; six grandchildren - Johnnie Niel Mackey, Jr., and wife Connie of Houston, Suzanne Mackey Wilson and husband Michael of Groesbeck, Jennifer Shelby Bourgeois of Baytown, Rebecca Shelby Busby and husband Roy of St. Stephens, Alabama, Wm. Harper Shelby and wife Shelly of League City, and Jay H. Shelby and wife Denise of Baytown; 22 great- grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are Zachary Stewart, William Mackey, Dennis Mackey, Benjamin Busby, Caleb Stewart and Niel Mackey. Honorary pallbearers are Richard Mazac, Jacob Busby, Andrew Busby, Zephyr Shelby, Brennan Shelby and Joseph Shelby.
