Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper January 22, 2009 Pauline Leona (Guest) Manahan Funeral services were held Monday for Pauline Leona Guest Manahan, 91, of Fairfield who died Friday, Jan. 9. Mrs. Manahan was born in Collinsville, Oklahoma on July 13, 1917 to Lonnie and Matilda (Puettgen) Guest. Her identical twin, Irene Delpha Guest, died of whooping cough at four months of age. During the oil boom, the Guest family moved to Mexia where Mrs. Manahan's father was employed as a welder with Ohio Daily Works. She attended area schools and began work at an early age to assuage the effects of the depression. On June 22, 1936, she married Willard "Buddy" Manahan in West Columbia. The two met at a Mexia restaurant where Mrs. Manahan worked as a waitress. During her career, she was employed for several years with Peyton Brothers and England's Jewelry, both located in Fairfield. She also helped her husband manage their gravel and cattle businesses. Mrs. Manahan was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fairfield for over 70 years. Services were held Monday, Jan. 12, at Griffin- Roughton Funeral Home in Fairfield with Benny Mize officiating. Special music was provided by Mrs. Manahan's nephew, John Stroud, who sang some of his aunt's favorite hymns. Interment followed at Fairfield Cemetery with John, Laythan, Sid, and Hugh Stroud and Onis and Davis Ellis serving as pallbearers. Mrs. Manahan is survived by her brother Raymond Guest and his wife Johnnie Mae of Redlands, Califronia; nephews, John Stroud and wife Verla of Tyler, Laythan Stroud and wife Nancy of Denton, Hugh Stroud and wife Carolyn of Graham, Sid Stroud and wife Jill of Allen, Leo Guest and wife Charlene, Lon Guest and wife Pam; nieces, Tommie Nell Ellis and husband Onis of Abilene. Funeral arrangements were made by Griffin- Roughton Funeral Home of Fairfield.
