Freestone County, Texas Obituaries TIGNA ESTELLE STEELE MANAHAN 2011-05-26 / Obituaries Funeral services were held Saturday at Griffin- Roughton Funeral Home of Fairfield for Tigna Estelle Steele Manahan, 97, of Fairfield who died May 19 at her home. Mrs. Manahan was born December 16, 1913, to Ruth Clark Steele and William R. “Bob” Steele in Streetman where she was raised and graduated Streetman high school in 1930. She enjoyed playing basketball, softball, working at the telephone office, was type setter for the Streetman News and while in Houston, she helped her sister Jo run a snack bar. On May 24, 1942, she married Jervis R. Manahan. They lived in Duncan Field, Waco, Corpus Christi, Houston and then retired to Fairfield where she lived the remainder of her life. Mrs. Manahan was an avid bowler and a member of Women’s International Bowling Congress, Inc. where she won several 200 series and one 500 series awards. She and her husband had the opportunity to travel to India, Hawaii, Japan, China, Thailand, Greece, Rome, Germany, Austria and England. Mrs. Manahan was a member of Streetman Baptist Church, University of Houston’s Women Club and Fairfield History Club. She was also a member of different bridge groups for many years in both Houston and Fairfield. Her hobbies were watching sports and game shows, working puzzles and playing bridge. Mrs. Manahan was preceded in death by her husband; parents; siblings TC Steele, Robert Steele and wife Betty, Betty Joe Steele and Rosa Tucker and husband Elbert “Tuck;” sisterin law Juliette Manahan Davis and husband Uel; nephew Robby Tucker; and nephews-in-law Steve Stroube and Mike Scott. She is survived by sister Macye Innis and late husband John; nieces and nephews Elaine Stroube of Corsicana, Rick and Janice Richards of Burleson, Sharion and Billy Bostic of Fort Worth, Jim and Nora Innis of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Pam Scott of Seneca, SC, Kathy and Stanley Blinka of Export, PA, Tammy and Dan Griffin of Mexia, Kathleen and Jim McKee of Fairfield, Carol Ann and Bobby Biggar of Austin, Jacqueline and Paul Collins of Wortham; and numerous other family members. Pallbearers were Gill Stroube, Clay McKee, Kyle Collins, Harold Massey, Gilbert Ponte Daniels and Warren Davis. Honorary pallbearers were Rick Richards, Aubrey Childs, Johnny B. Massey and members of the Fairfield History Club. Officiating services were Grayson Glass and Buddy Tuner with special music by Don Thornton.
