Freestone County, Texas Obituaries ERNESTINE LAMBERTH MANDEVILLE 2011-06-09 / Obituaries Private funeral services were held Saturday at Union Cemetery Chapel of Freestone county for Ernestine Lamberth Mandevile, 84, of Freestone who died June 3 in the Teague Nursing Home after a lengthy trial with dementia. Interment followed at Union Cemetery. Mrs. Mandeville was born November 30, 1926 in Freestone to Ruby Langdon and Garlan Lamberth. She was known as “Teenie” and the girl with the million dollar smile as a young person. Because she enjoyed going and could sit still, her aunts took her to school with them before she was old enough to go and Freestone School closed her senior year, so she graduated with the Teague high school class of 1946. In 1947, she met S.A. Mandeville, known as Pete, at a singing school being held in Freestone where she backed him into a cloak room (her own words) and asked him to come to her house for a glass of tea. The couple was married January 25, 1947 and together had two daughters. Early married life took the couple to Lufkin and Odessa and eventually back to Freestone county where they owned Mandeville Grocery in Donie for about 10 years. Their last home was in Teague. Mrs. Mandeville became a licensed vocational nurse in 1968 and was dedicated to her work. When she passed away in the Teague Nursing Home, she was being cared for by some of those who had worked there with her years before. Upon retiring, Mrs. Mandeville enjoyed quilting and writing poetry, passing the latter down to both daughters. She also enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles. She was a Christian, a member of the Church of Christ and spent many hours with her Bible in hand. Mrs. Mandeville was preceded in death by her husband and parents. She is survived by daughters Brenda Ballew and husband Jerry of Teague and Molly Fryer and husband Sid of Fairfield; Grandchildren Troy Allison and Anne, Ryker and Denham Hunt, Hayley Allison and daughter Cicilia King, Clinton Sneed Fryer and Wife Kristan and sons Caden Sneed and Cullen Samuel and Clark Sidney Fryer; Step- grandchildren Stephanie Biggs and husband Clint and sons Josh, Devin and Sam, Ashley Ballew and son Benjamin Ullman, Tim Ballew and wife Elizabeth; Sister Joan Lackey; aunt Addie May Cullwell and several first cousins. A come-and-go memorial fellowship for friends and family is set for Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church of Teague. All are welcome to attend, have refreshments and share memories of Mrs. Mandeville. Making arrangments was Bowers Funeral Home of Teague.
