Interment followed the service at Union Cemetery. Cheryl Anne Martin, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on March 28, 2025, at the age of 65, in San Antonio, Texas after a short battle with cancer. Cheryl was born on December 11, 1959, at Fort Rucker, Alabama as the second child of LTC (US Army-Retired) George Meyer & Germaine Fournier Meyer. From an early age, she was an avid reader and life-long learner, and friend to many, living in Germany, Virginia, California, and Texas as a military brat. Cheryl is survived by her older brother Austen, younger sister Celeste, and younger brother Jeff, in addition to many brothers- and sisters-in law, cousins, nieces and nephews. Cheryl is also survived by her husband Kevin Dale Martin, of San Antonio, Texas. They first met on February 20, 1976, at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo while attending MacArthur High School and were hardly ever apart for almost 50 years. Married on August 11, 1979, they raised three wonderful children—Jennifer, Matthew, and Allison—who were the light of Cheryl’s life. She loved her two sons-in-law and daughter-in-law as her own and prayed for Nathan, Dylan, and Mikayla for years before she knew them. Her role as a Grammy brought her immense joy, and she cherished every moment spent with Jackson, Camden, Ezra, and Caleb. Before becoming a stay-at-home mom, Cheryl worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Richard Lazor. She was always quick to take on responsibilities beyond her job description, and was an excellent and fast learner. Much later, she worked as a Children’s Ministry Assistant at Grace Point Church, stepping out of her comfort zone by learning technology and systems that were new to her. She was blessed to answer the call to care for others’ children at church as a volunteer and provided in-home daycare for 16 infants and children of friends, all of whom felt her special brand of deep and genuine love from an early age. Her love for God and His Word was evident to all who knew her and grew into a passion for leading Bible studies, formally and informally. She was always sharing some new truth she had learned about a certain word, historical context, and the like. Cheryl’s warmth and generosity touched everyone who knew her, even if briefly. Whether she was sharing a home-cooked meal, her homemade fudge, famous chocolate chip cookies, offering words of wisdom and encouragement, or just simply having the best listening ear, she had a way of making everyone feel valued with her deep love and ultimately wanted them to embrace God’s love and salvation. Never afraid to express herself artistically, she photographed her family life, painted, decorated cakes, cross-stitched, quilted, sewed clothes, and crocheted blankets, all done with her special eye for design and colors. She followed her children’s interests and volunteered for Girl Scouts, PTA, pep squad, band and color guard activities, serving several hundred students and parents. She was a tireless servant and always found fun in the most mundane or difficult task. She will be deeply missed by so many, but forever remembered in the hearts of her family and friends. Her legacy of everlasting love, humility, courage, humor, and kindness will continue to live on in those she loved and leaves behind.
