Freestone County, Texas Obits Corsicana Daily Sun - Oct 26, 2002 edition Jack Ross Matthews Jack Ross Matthews, 78, a longtime resident of LaMarque, passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002 in Mexia following a lengthy illness. Services will be 11 a.m. today at First Methodist Church of Wortham. Interment will follow at Dawson Cemetery. Mr. Matthews was born in Dawson and proudly served in the army during World War II. A graduate of Navarro Junior College and the University of Houston, Mr. Matthews taught and coached in Purdon, Corsicana and LaMarque school districts. Survivors include his wife, Jo Nell Bounds Matthews; son, Kenneth Matthews of Santa Fe, Texas; daughter, Melanie Sanders of Texas City; grandchildren, Brandon and Corey Briggs, Amanda and Andrew Matthews, Kinsey and Andrea Green and Nathan Sanders; son-in-law, Michael Sanders; daughters-in-law, Diane Matthews and Elida Matthews; brothers, Dr. W.R. Matthews of Mexia and Fred Matthews of Hermosa, S. D.; sister, Betty Christian of Dawson; father-in-law, T. A. Bounds of Wortham; and numerous nieces and nephews.
