Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Mexia Daily News - Sep. 28, 2004 edition Ruby Mae (Griffin) Mayes Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Mae Griffin Mayes, 83, of Wortham, will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock in Beulah Missionary Baptist Church of Wortham. Officiating will be the Rev. Lester Brown, pastor. Burial will be in Wortham Cemetery, under direction of Moore's Angelic Funeral Home of Teague. Mrs. Mayes, born in Freestone County on Aug. 22, 1921, died Thursday in Providence Medical Center-Waco. She was a Federal Civil Service employee in Fairbanks, Alaska, where she also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are six step-children; three sisters, Gladys McMullen and Velma Jackson, both of Wortham, and Thelma Pringle of Waco; a brother and sister-in-law, McKinley and Bernice Griffin of El Paso; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Larry Yarrell II, Stewart Coleman, Charles Ray Paris, Edgar Paige, Jr., Dan Hurd, Sr., and Edgar Paige III.
