Glenn McCollum TEAGUE - A longtime area minister, the Rev. Glenn McCollum, 75, of Teague, died Monday at Parkview Regional Hospital-Mexia. At the time of his death, he was Minister of Visitation and Encouragement for Teague First Baptist Church, and had held that post for the past 10 years. Funeral services for Rev. McCollum will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in First Baptist Church. The Rev. Darrel Beggs will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, under direction of Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home. Rev. McCollum, a former resident of Gregory, Aransas Pass, Bishop, Bremond, Mission, Daisetta, Kyle, Lockhart and Freeport, he served as pastor in many of these towns. He surrendered his life to pastoral service to God at the age of 18. He was a 1947 graduate of Freeport High School, attended the University of Corpus Christi, then graduated from Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth. In addition to his position at First Baptist Church, Rev. McCollum had also, on many occasions, served churches as interim pastor in the Tri-County Area. He participated in numerous funerals over the years and was well known for singing The Lord's Prayer, acapella, at the graveside, then passing out cards with the prayer printed on them, to all who attended. He participated in World Wide Missions, which he considered to be his life's purpose; took Missions trips to Jamaica, Australia and Japan, with his most recent four trips being to Africa. He was an avid woodworker, enjoyed carving birds and other artworks of wood, and also collected barbed wire. He was known for building barbed-wire maps, also wrote poems and loved hymns of the church. The family requests that Memorials be made to the mission work of your choice. Rev. McCollum is survived by his wife, Nellie McCollum of Teague; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammie and Jack Hall of Houston; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Debbie McCollum of Boerne; daughters, Eva Price and husband Rick, Dawna Hyden and husband Randy, and Tricia DuBois, all of Teague; a sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Wayne Cast of Hearne. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren - Emily Hall of Houston, Gibson Hall of Houston, Casey McCollum of Boerne, Brian Harris of Teague, Jennifer Harris of Dallas, Rebekah Price of Teague, Traci Shamblin of Waco, Shelly Hyden of Mexia, Reed Nichols, Steven Hyden, Scott Hyden and Jeff DuBois, all of Teague; two great-grandchildren, Daniel Price and Taylor Nichols of Teague; three nephews - Matt Cast of Fort Worth, John Cast of Temple and Steve Cast of College Station; five great-nephews, two great-nieces, other relatives, a host of friends and his church family.
