Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Mexia Daily News - May 3, 2005 Lorine Johnson McDaniel Funeral services for Mother Lorine Johnson McDaniel, 99, will be Wednesday at noon in Mexia State School's All Faith Chapel. The Rev. Gregory Watson will officiate, with the Rev. Kennen Jackson serving as eulogist. Burial will be in Avant Cemetery, under direction of Moore's Angelic Funeral Home of Teague. Mother McDaniel was born Aug. 3, 1905, and died last Wednesday in Fort Worth. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Loyd M. McDaniel; and children - Eura Lee McDaniel, Dorothy Lee Wicker, a son and daughter who were born dead, a sister and three brothers. She was born Lorine Johnson to Herman and Amelia Johnson in Freestone County, and was married on June 2, 1924, and while still very young became a member of the Avant African Methodist Episcopal Church of Teague, and later was a member of Little Bethel AME Church of Mexia. That church later merged with St. John AME Church, where she also served - as a Stewardess, Nursery Teacher, Trustee, and was honored as Mother of the Church. She also was a member in good standing of The Golden Arch Court 364 Heroines of Jericho in Mexia, for over 40 years. She had been a volunteer in the Foster Grandparents since the program began in 1965. Surviving are sons - Loyd McDaniel and wife Nell of Mexia, James McDaniel, D.L. McDaniel and wife Erma, Albert McDaniel and wife Ella, Eddie McDaniel and wife Lola, all of Fort Worth, and Garland McDaniel and wife Annie of Burleson; daughters - Ruby Carwell and husband Alex of Fort Worth, Doris A. Smith and husband Walter of Vancouver, Washington, and Jeanette Madkins of Fort Worth; sisters - Rose P. Johnson of Mexia and Annie Lee Fantroy of Fairfield; 54 grandchildren, 175 great-grandchildren, 75 great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Lloyd McDaniel, Jr., James McDaniel, D.L. McDaniel, Albert McDaniel, Eddie R. McDaniel and Garland R. McDaniel. Designated as honorary pallbearers are Stewards of St. John AME Church, those in the Mexia State School Foster Grandparent program, Golden Arch Court 364 Heroines of Jericho members from Mexia, and Beauford Howard, Beauford Howard, Jr., Alex Williams, Edward McDaniel, Mike Gamble and James Lockett.
