Howard Wilson McDonald Sr. Howard Wilson McDonald Sr., 69, of Gatesville passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2002 in a Temple hospital. Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Scott's Funeral Home, 904 Leon St., Gatesville. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Scott's Funeral Home with the Rev. Willie Clarke and the Rev. Walter McDonald officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Mr. McDonald was born March 1, 1933 in Wortham to Fulton T. McDonald and Minnie L. Wilson McDonald. He was united in Christ at an early age. He was raised and educated in Corsicana and attended G. W. Jackson High School. He then served in the U.S. military from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean conflict. While serving his country, he met Virginia Dixon and they were later married in December 1958. To that union, six children were born and one son from a previous relationship. Mr. and Mrs. McDonald moved to Gatesville in 1961. He was employed by the City of Gatesville until his retirement. He was a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church in Gatesville. His hobbies included fishing and playing dominos. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fulton T. McDonald Sr. and Minnie L. Wilson McDonald, both of Corsicana; brothers, Johnny H. McDonald of San Angelo and Robert Fulton McDonald Jr. of Corsicana; and sister, Ruby Lee Brown of Gatesville. Survivors include his wife, Virginia McDonald of Gatesville; brothers, Ronnie E. McDonald and wife Vickie of Denton and Walter R. McDonald and wife Carolyn of Killeen; sons, Howard W. McDonald Jr. and Homer L. McDonald and wife Kathy, all of Gatesville, and Gary Govan of Fairfield; daughters, Lovetta D. Knox and husband Jimmy, Marilyn M. McDonald and Aretha K. McDonald, all of Gatesville, and Laura A. Smart and husband Michael of St. Louis, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Susan McDonald; 21 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
