Freestone County, Texas Obits Fairfield Recorder - April 1, 1898 - page 5 "Obituary Miss Flora . McGilvary was born in Navarro Co., Texas Oct 1, 1867 and died in Freestone County at the residence of her brother in law, Mr. Irvin B. Bonner, Feb 19, 1898. Truly is life a great mystery with speculations and reasonings of the philosopher has failed to unravel its skeins, penetrate its darkness or develop its lights, it stands out unknowable. We can hardly realize that it is appointed unto all the living once to die and that the moment we begin to live, we begin to die. Death knocks at the palace of the kingsand potentates as remorsefully and surely as at the door of the humblest peasant or the poorest wayfarer. There is no exemption from His visitation. He is impartial and sooner or later all the living must feel and succumb to His fatal icy touch, but there is this consolation to "the believer" - "the Christ is risen indeed". There is to be a resurrection from what we call the death. From early girlhood and all through her life of suffering and sickness the deceased trusted in the Savior with an unwavering faith, calm in the confidence of Christian hope she met death not as a dreaded enemy, but as a necessary companion for her guidance to the hereafter of eternal rest. Peacefully she retired from this world of pan "like one who wraps the drapery of his couch about him and lies down to pleasant dreams". Cora Belle Winkler, Texas"
