Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Teague Chronicle - Feb 18, 2010 issue THELKA HAECKER MCLEOD Celebration of Life services for Thelka Haecker McLeod, 94, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2010, at Eighth Avenue Baptist Church with internment in Greenwood Cemetery in Teague, Texas. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. on Friday, February 12 at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Thelka, the eldest of nine children, was born in Cibolo, Texas, on July 5, 1915, to Alfred Otto and Ella Emilia Geborene Schrank Haecker. On October 22, 1932, she married Thomas Marion McLeod. The couple made their home in Corpus Christi, El Paso, Odessa, and Teague, Texas. While in Teague, she was a member of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church, Senior Saints, Teague Garden Club, and was a volunteer at the local hospital and nursing home. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge where she served as Noble Grand. She passed away in Odessa on February 8, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. As her life is celebrated, her loving family and friends do so knowing that her passing leaves a void in many lives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas M. McLeod; daughter, Mary Evelyn McLeod Dunlap; brothers, Theodore, Norman, and Elvin Haecker; sisters, Nola Haecker Stidhem and Ellen Haecker Kubicek. Survivors include son, Wilfred and daughter-in-law Jerry McLeod of Odessa; daughters and sons-in-law Frances and David Livingson of El Paso, Loraine and Billy Rose of Granbury, Barbara and Don Schroeder of Paint Rock; son-in-law Mark Dunlap of Conroe; 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 11 great great grandchildren; brother, Melford Haecker and sisters Gertrice Haecker Johnson and Gertrude Haecker Schwab. Bowers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
